Questions about the platform

You are also welcome to send us your questions about the process or your feedback here. We look forward to helping you with your tax return.

How much does a tax return cost with a tax consultant ?

On Smart eTax you can get an individual quote for the completion of your tax return, the quotes are very accurate. Fill in the questionnaire carefully to avoid misunderstandings and additional costs for your tax return

Do I have to file a tax return with a B permit?

Yes: Employees with an annual income of more than CHF 120,000 and a B permit initially pay withholding tax, which is automatically deducted from their salary. However, you will be obliged to submit a regular tax return.

The withholding tax already paid will be credited after the tax return has been submitted. Foreigners with a B permit in Switzerland therefore do not pay tax twice.

Perhaps: If the annual gross income with a B permit is less than CHF 120,000 or the threshold value of the respective canton, one usually only has to fill out a tax return if the taxable assets amount to at least CHF 100,000 and the income from these assets amounts to at least CHF 2,000.

Subsequent ordinary taxation also takes place if you:

have taxable assets of at least CHF 150,000 at the end of the tax year or tax period, or
in a tax year you have other income of at least CHF 3,000 that is not subject to withholding tax (e.g. income from self-employment, alimony).

Do I have to fill in a tax return with a C permit?

Yes! Anyone living in Switzerland and holding a C permit must submit a tax return, which is called a "tax return" in Switzerland. Foreigners with a C permit must therefore pay their taxes for several years, just like all Swiss citizens.

At the beginning of the year, you will automatically receive your personal tax return from your last registered municipality of residence as of 31 December. You pay your taxes to this municipality of residence.
